This Friday (12th August) HS2’s construction partner, Balfour Beatty VINCI, will be joining the West Midlands Jobs and Skills Showcase, which is designed to help those looking for work now the Games has drawn to a close.
The event will be held at the Library of Birmingham from 10.00 to 15.00 and BBV can offer direct pathways into employment for those looking for roles in either security or construction.
Shilpi Akbar, Head of Stakeholders and Communities at BBV explains:
“It’s a really exciting time for the West Midlands right now, which is still buzzing from hosting the hugely successful Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games this summer.
“We share the same ambition to leave a lasting skills legacy for the region. That’s why we’re encouraging volunteers and temporary workers from the Games to come along on Friday to learn more about the many opportunities up for grabs, as we help to build Europe’s largest infrastructure project.”
Over 27,000 people are now part of the team delivering HS2, which will see two brand new stations built in the region in central Birmingham and Solihull. Much like the Commonwealth Games, HS2 is striving to create a lasting skills legacy and has committed to providing free training to support people back into work.
Over 80km of the HS2 network is being constructed in the local area, spanning from Warwickshire, though the West Midlands and into Staffordshire. HS2’s construction is providing local employment opportunities into the next decade and beyond for those looking to start an exciting new career.
