Breakthrough! HS2 completes excavation of huge 8.4 mile tunnel under the capital
27 Jun 2025- Excavation of the second longest tunnel on HS2 route between London and the West Midlands has been completed
- The tunnel was built using four machines, with the final one taking 14 months to complete its drive
- Work will soon move to the next stage of tunnel construction including the flat tunnel base where high speed tracks will be laid

HS2 completes three-day Northants viaduct slide
24 Jun 2025- View and embed new timelapse footage of the three-day deck slide near Thorpe Mandeville in West Northamptonshire
- Download new photos of the slide, which was delivered between Wednesday 18th and Friday 20th June 2025
- 220m-long Lower Thorpe viaduct is the last of five similar ‘double composite’ structures slid into position by main works contractor EKFB

- All tunnelling will be complete for the tunnel – the second longest on the high-speed line – this summer

HS2 begins M6 viaduct slide
09 Jun 2025- Material similar to that found on non-stick frying pans was used to slide the first of three giant sections into place over a slip road during a 29-hour closure, reopening to traffic 11 hours earlier than planned.
- The multi-stage sliding technique being used means that just three weekend closures will be needed to get the East deck into position, with the next two taking it across the motorway and adjacent M6-M42 link road.

04 Jun 2025- Striking images and video show the huge cutterhead being lifted to the skies
- The 125-metre-long machine is being dismantled by a team of specialist engineers working for HS2's construction partner, Balfour Beatty VINCI.
