M6 reopens early after weekend HS2 viaduct slide
29 Sep 2025- Watch timelapse and drone footage showing HS2 engineers sliding a 3,400-tonne viaduct across the M6 this weekend, or download the latest images.
- Both carriageways were opened to traffic at 12.30pm on Sunday, 9.5 hours ahead of schedule following a 33-hour closure.
- This weekend's work was the second phase of multi-phase operation that will see two parallel viaducts installed to carry HS2 services between London and the West Midlands

HS2 fossil finds go on display at Oxford University Museum of Natural History
11 Sep 2025- The temporary display, located in the Museum’s ‘Presenting’ case tells the story of how the building of Britain’s railways, from Victorian pioneers to modern high-speed rail, has contributed to our understanding of geological history and the distant past.
- The display, entitled From ‘Flying Steed’ to High Speed: How Britain’s railway development has powered our geological and palaeontological understanding can be found in the Main Court of Oxford Museum of Natural History until the 26 October 2025. The museum is open daily from 10am – 5pm and admission is free.
- Download new images of the fossils, which were discovered across various sites in Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and West Northamptonshire.
