A partnership between HS2’s West Midlands construction partner, Balfour Beatty VINCI (BBV), and Walsall Works is helping unemployed Walsall residents to access training, develop new skills and start building a career on HS2.

• Hot on the heels of HS2’s first London TBM, ‘Sushila’, who set off earlier this month, the 2,000 tonnes TBM, ‘Caroline’ has today begun the 5-mile journey towards Greenford from West Ruislip in West London

In the last three months, the rapid pace of HS2’s construction has seen more than 2,300 people join the ‘orange army’ building HS2’s stations, viaducts, bridges and embankments, taking the current total workforce to just under 30,000.

The launch of HS2’s giant tunnel boring machine, which set off on its five-mile journey from West Ruislip to Greenford on 6^th October, has sparked new training and employment opportunities for residents in seven London boroughs.
