HS2 today began the search for a specialist contractor to build the high speed rail project’s central control centre and maintenance depot, which will create around 500 long-term jobs in Birmingham’s Washwood Heath.

HS2 Ltd’s latest reporting figures show it has smashed the 500 new apprentice starts milestone, with East Birmingham resident, Darren, becoming the 500^th apprentice to play a part in delivering Britain’s new railway.

HS2 today revealed the final design for the headhouse that will provide emergency access to the new high speed railway’s tunnels as they approach Euston station.

Lin Qi, a 26-year-old assistant project manager from Birmingham who works for HS2’s construction partner Laing O’Rourke and J. Murphy joint venture (LMJV), is one of 16 ‘Railway Heroes’ chosen to star in a brand-new exhibition at The National Railway Museum to celebrate the vital role played by railway key workers during the pandemic.
